No. 22 Women’s Tennis Rolls Past Eckerd, 9-0

Lindsley and Lavallii Rise to 12-1 in Doubles Play as a Team This Season

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 22 Nova Southeastern University women’s tennis team (8-6, 3-1 SSC) defeated the Eckerd Tritons (2-9, 0-5 SSC), 9-0, on Friday, March 25 at the NSU Tennis Complex.

“We had a good match today,” head coach Michael Coleman said. “We kept our composure and played well.”

Paige Lindsley (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) and sophomore Austin Lavallii (Williamston, Mich.) captured their 12th victory this season in doubles play as a team by defeating Hannah Segal and Sonnet Ludwig in the No. 3 spot, 8-0. Blake Bauer (So., Miami, Fla.) defeated Lugwig, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 6 singles to stay perfect in conference singles matches at 4-0 and tally her 11th singles win of the season.

The Sharks struck early, capturing a, 3-0, lead after doubles play. The international duo of Daria Burobina (Fr., Moscow, Russia) and Federica Longo (So., Buenos Aires, Argentina) shutout Telara Buelow and Stephanie Jenks, 8-0, in the No. 2 slot. Dominique Wimmer (Jr., Guntramsdorf, Austria) and Kamryn Blackwood (Fr., Farmington, N.M.) rounded out the doubles action with a victory against Emmy Laing and Amanda Teets, 8-2, in the No. 1 spot.

The Sharks entered singles play with a lead for the eighth time this season. NSU boasted a 6-1 record when leading after doubles play heading into today’s singles action.

In singles, Wimmer prevailed against Laing in a tie-breaker set in the No. 1 spot, winning her match 6-2, 0-6, (9) for her seventh singles victory of the season.

Oksana Krutiyenko (Sr., Novo Kahovka, Ukraine) was tested in her first set in the No.3 slot, but found her rhythm to earn her fifth win of the year in singles play, 7-5, 6-1, against Teets.

Burobina and Lindsley each got off to quick starts, eventually both earning their seventh win in singles play. Burobina defeated Stephanie Jenks, 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot as Lindsley rolled by Burlow, 6-2, 6-1 in No. 4 slot. Longo finished the match by shutting out Segal in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

This shutout poses as the first this season at the NSU Tennis Complex and the second of the year for the Sharks.

The Sharks return the courts on Saturday, March 26 to host Florida Tech at the NSU Tennis Complex at 1:30 p.m.
